As the author, I am happy that some of my colleagues have rated this "one of the best books on hypnosis ever written for the non-professional." But the fact is, I'm not the only author here. We all did it, everyone of the thousands over the years who volunteered for experiments, helped with logistics and data collection and analysis, and participated in numerous other ways. Bless them all, every one!
What I tried to do with this book, our book—and according to feedback from readers I believe I succeeded—was make it a layered text that goes from light to heavy.
Here's what I mean. If all you want is to know the basics of self-hypnosis and how to apply it to the most obvious things that need changing in your life, you can do that. Or if you want to really dig into the subject (and your own psyche), all the tools are here for that, too. So you can get as lightly or as heavily involved with self-hypnosis and your own inner mental workings as you like.
In our years of research it was very clear that success at anything—losing weight, quitting smoking, memory improvement, controlling things like shyness or fear, in fact anything that depends on a person's own efforts—always requires subconscious agreement with the conscious goal.
That, then, is the primary objective of the methods presented in this book: to bring the subconscious into alignment with conscious goals. Without that agreement, failure is usually the outcome.
But with agreement, success is almost always easy. Certainly easier, anyway. And more complete and satisfying.
